AgroRemed BR
AgroRemed has been developed from the bacterial sources in the US and hence it is not accepted by the Brazilian Environment Agency IBAMA for direct release into the environment. It was necessary to customize a new product namely AgroRemed BR for use on direct application for on-site biormediation of contaminated soils in Brazil. Currently there are three projects involving cleanup of soils contaminated with transformer oil. At Atuba, the Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) concentrations of soils were more than 700,000 ppm due to a history of contamination since 1964 and due to the unsafe practises of storage and cleanup. The contaminated site is on a gradient and along side the river Parana and hence has been declared as an "Area of Permanent Protection (APP)" hence neither excavation nor direct application of product to the spoil was accepted by the regulators. Using the 'pump and treat' method, initial results showed reduction of more than 95% in the soil. Two more projects are in in progress both are not covered by APP where direct application of AgroRemed BR has been made and one site has been closed after the values were found to be within accepted limits.
