City of Newport News has been maintaining a contaminated site for the past almost 20 years with frequent spills and fresh free product in the monitoring wells. Success of cleanup of the shipyard indicated that AgroRemed could also be evaluated for cleanup of the oil terminal site and accordingly VA DEQ and the city institutes a pilot project to determine the application of AgroRemed. Only two sampling and analyses event were identified one at the end of 10 days and the second event on 20th day and the project would be closed and the results will be analyzed. Results of the pilot showed that there was more than 30% reduction in the values of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) and at the end of 20 days period, there was more than 90% reduction in the values of TPH reducing from 18,000 ppm to 990 ppm and from 30,542.8 to 1680 ppm. Based on these values the scope of the corrective action plan has been modified and submitted to VA DEQ by the city.
